Solo Cellist; available for recitals, concertos and master classes

Richard Sher studied at Juilliard with Leonard Rose, joined the Boston Symphony at age 18, was Principal Cellist of the St. Louis Symphony at age 19 and member of the Vermeer Quartet at age 20.

Sher has performed in the Marlboro Festival and the Spoleto Festival, in recitals in major cities in Europe and the United States, including a duo recital with Richard Goode, and in concertos with St. Louis symphony and other orchestras.

While principal cellist with the St. Louis Symphony, he was assistant professor at Washington University.

While with the Vermeer Quartet in Illinois, he taught chamber music and cello at Northern Illinois University with the title of lecturer.

He has taken master classes and garnered praise and respect from the immortal Pablo Casals and has played with and been influenced by the chamber music greats Alexander Schneider, Felix Galimir, members of the Budapest Quartet, Rudolf and Peter Serkin.

Felix Galimir worked with Ravel, Berg and other great composers. Casals knew Bruckner and Strauss and is a direct line to the actual composers.

The knowledge Sher has gained from these great teachers and musicians is priceless. Many of them are no longer with us, leaving Sher and a few others to pass on these great traditions of classical music.

MSR Classics has just released a new CD with Richard Sher, cello and Bernard Rose, Piano.
